Leadership is not by age but by responsibilities

The Municipal Chief Executive of Asokore Mampong, Hon. Ben Abdullah, has emphasized that leadership is not defined by age, but by responsibility.

Hon. Abdullah made these remarks during his engagement with Ghanaian youth at the Ignite Kumasi Youth Empowerment Summit 2026, held under the theme “Unlocking Potential: Preparing Ghanaian Youth for a Global Future.”

According to him, leadership is not defined by age, title, or position, but rather by responsibility, character, and the ability to inspire positive change. He explained that true leadership is rooted in purpose, as purpose guides one’s actions, provides stability during challenges, and ensures focus in times of distraction.

He encouraged young people to always be prepared to create opportunities, noting that opportunities favor the prepared mind. He added that it is better to be prepared and not have opportunities than to have opportunities and not be prepared. Therefore, Ghanaian youth must stay ready, as the future of the nation depends on them.

Hon. Abdullah further urged the youth to embrace challenges as a way of identifying opportunities, so they can excel in whatever they do. He advised them to embrace digital transformation, develop practical and entrepreneurial skills, cultivate innovation and creativity, and focus on creating opportunities rather than merely seeking them.

He stressed that ethical leadership is the foundation of sustainable development. According to him, integrity, accountability, discipline, and respect for others are not optional but essential. He noted that leadership without accountability leads to failure, while ethical leadership builds trust, inspires confidence, and drives lasting relevance.

He also encouraged the youth to let their actions reflect change, their decisions reflect fairness, and their leadership reflect service. He urged them to discover who they are and what they stand for, develop relevant skills for today’s economy, discipline themselves, and commit to serving their communities.
